In addition to the deacon’s role in liturgies, I have served as a deacon mentor, education advocacy, Truth and Reconciliation Commission, “Seeing the Face of God” facilitator.

Personal/Other:
Former Peace Corp volunteer; retired attorney; and retired hospital chaplain. Married to Andrew Mayrer; 3 children (2 his, 1 mine); three grandchildren. I “Love to read”, if I could only find the time.

Deacons: Much More Than Sunday

About Deacon Michelle Doran

Ordained in 2007, Michelle’s home church was St. James, Lothian. In addition to the usual liturgical duties of a deacon, she has served as EfM mentor, organized food drives, and participated in missions in Ghana to work with Ghanaian Mothers’ Hope, where she ran a reading camp. Michelle served as Archdeacon in the Diocese of Maryland for five years, and is currently working with priests and parish representatives across the Diocese about Reading Camp possibilities in their areas. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica as a math teacher trainer. In Michelle’s own words: “I am married to my wonderful husband Richard and have two daughters and three grandchildren whom I see on a regular basis. Being a grandmother is one of the best gigs I’ve ever had.”
